January 22 Update on Denver's Migrant Sheltering Response

Published in: Denver News The City and County of Denver is providing a weekly update on the support given to migrants who have arrived in Denver from Central and South America. Denver continues to remain a welcoming city for all migrants at the city’s Reception Center between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., seven days per week. Currently 4,277 people are being sheltered. As of Monday, Jan. 22, Denver has supported 37,844 migrants from the southern border at a cost of more than $40 million. Denver is currently operating seven non-congregate migrant shelters for newcomers as well as two congregate shelters for migrants experiencing homelessness. The city is also partnering with the Archdiocese of Denver to provide bridge housing for a limited number of families with children. The city is grateful for funding it has received so far to support migrant sheltering operations, including a reimbursement award of $3.5 million from the State of Colorado. Updates will take place on Mondays, and if a Monday lands on a city holiday, the dashboard will be updated the following business day. To maintain transparency and to track the hundreds of people moving indoors at the end of 2023, the public dashboard was updated daily. Since Jan. 1, dashboard activity has become less frequent with an average of 27 people per week moving indoors. The dashboard changes in activity are due to the success of the House1000 initiative where more than 1,100 people were brought indoors and the largest encampments in Denver were closed to future camping. City outreach teams will continue supporting people experiencing homelessness and tracking the data as it becomes available. Published in: Denver News   The University of Colorado is currently looking for people who are overweight and would like to reduce or stop drinking for a research study examining the effect of a medication (semaglutide) on alcohol use. This research study should take about 11 weeks of your time. You will be asked to visit the clinic about 8 times (possibly a few more) and there is a follow-up phone call at the end of the study. During the course of the research study, you will have a physical exam and lab tests, give urine and blood samples, do alcohol breathalyzer tests, answer questions and complete questionnaires, have two fMRI scans, and take study medication. You will also use a Smartphone to get reminders to take the study medication and record yourself taking the medication each day.
